Introduction

ChartMap is a small ‘stand-alone’ Windows utility for Flight Simulators allowing a number of airport charts to be stored and available on screen whilst still flying.

 

The use of the program is very simple and intuitive. You insert only the airport name and the program will show all the data stored.

The program can create new airport charts and it is possible to print all procedure charts.

The official language is Italian and English.

Installation

Pre-requisites

The program is possible to download in two different mode  (with setup, big file or without setup but in this case you must have the runtime library for Visual Basic 6).

 

If you  choose the first mode,  simply unzip the file ChartMap.zip into a temporary directory and run the Setup.exe programme.  During the Setup you can choose the directory in which you wish to install Chartmap or choose the default provided.

If you choice the second mode, unzip the files and will automatically create all directories and subdirectories.

Running ChartMap

After the Setup has finished, you will find the application within your Windows [Start][Programs] list.  Simply start the programme in the normal way.  Once started the screen below will be displayed. 

 

 

 

 

After you have inserted the name of the airport (you must insert the first letter and the program will give you the first airport name) and pressed search,  you will see  the second form.

 

 

 

 

As you can see is possible to print this data and the airport chart.

 

The management has following commands, which will be covered in more detail below:

 

 

Procedures               This open the charts procedures dialogue, where you can choice the  procedures that you want.

Print                         This command print simply all data and the airport chart (is a simply print form).

Reset                        Reset all data and allow you to start again the application to choice another airport.

Info                           Info on program and author.

Exit                           Exit ChartMap

 

If  you press procedures command you will see the follow picture :

 

 

In this picture you can choice between Sid, Star and Approach procedures

After the choice you will see all the data (Sid, Star and approach) of the airport where you will choice the right procedure that will be  like below :

 

 

 

 

In the above picture you have chosen the ilsdme sierra rwy 20 procedure

 

The management has following commands, which will be covered in more detail below:

 

Zoom In/Out             Allows zooming of the picture in the right side

Print                         This command print simply all data and the procedure chart (is a simply print form).

Save Data                 After you have Inserted , for instance, the missed approach procedure you must press this command to store the data in the database

Exit                           Exit from this form and return to main form

Link FS                    This is the most important command because allow to bring the procedure charts in Flight Simulator and keep always on the screen during the flight.

 

 

 

After you press Link FS you would to start Flight Simulator and after will see this picture :

 

 

 

You can move the charts on the screen in any position and you can to put into proportion that you want.

You can choice any procedure when do you want during the flight. 

 ChartMap will remain ‘on top’ of your simulator, even if you click back within the Flight Sim window.  This is done on purpose so that charts can remain viewable, and radios / VOR frequencies etc. changed whilst viewing the chart.

 

 

If you want to insert an airport that don’t exist in database you will see this message:

 

 

 

If you press OK you must insert the data in the next form and at the end save all.

You will save only the data that you put on and the program will exclusively create the directory and subdirectory.

Your will responsibility be to insert the graphic charts in the same subdirectories

 

 

 

 

 

IMPORTANT NOTE

 

The size picture would be  as the follow :

 

 

 

You can capture the charts from the screen with a screen capture  or downloading from Flight Simulator website and save accordingly as a .gif.

 

 

 

 

That’s all.

 

 

Restrictions

Note that since ChartMap is a Windows programme which minimises to the System Tray, it cannot be run when running Flight Simulator in ‘Full Screen’ mode, only when the simulator is being run within Windows.

This programme has been developed using Microsoft Visual Basic 6 and supplied with all necessary runtime files.  The software and associated files have been virus checked and the programme should run successfully under Windows 9x (95 or 98) ME, XP or 2000.

 

This programme should not damage your PC and software in anyway, but even if you believe it has, myself cannot be held responsible for any problems that may result through its use.  Users install and run the software at their own risk.
